If you haven’t heard, the organization is at the center of a controversy around the release of a video by anti-abortion activists that shows Planned Parenthood employees discussing the sale of fetal tissues for research purposes.

Democrats were largely muted when the videos were first distributed, but their defense of Planned Parenthood has grown more robust.

The anti-abortion Center for Medical Progress has released four videos in which people posing as representatives of a company that purchases fetal tissue converse with Planned Parenthoodofficials. “And they left a few people out there, like Ted Cruz”, Trump said, referring to the Texas senator and rival Republican presidential candidate who pushed hardest for the 2013 shutdown, and is deploying similar rhetoric now over Planned Parenthood.

Odd how Planned Parenthood and the Washington Post reporter are in sync here.

There were three across our state and more than 70 rallies nationwide. Republicans said the bill would protect women’s health by redirecting those funds to community health centers that don’t provide abortions.

The release of the videos have prompted investigations by House committees and two states. I think you have to in this case also, yes.

Currently, Planned Parenthood receives $528 million annually in government funds.

In discussing the prices that Planned Parenthood could command for fetal organs, Farrell explains that administrative costs can be calculated along with “anything that we piggyback onto that for collection purposes”. Planned Parenthood has emphatically denied that claim. “These videos shine a spotlight on the true nature of the abortion industry, the extinguishment of life and the business decisions driving the treatment of their ‘patients”, he said. They do provide birth control, cancer screening, testing and treatment for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases, all of which were covered under the Medicaid contract. The bill, sponsored by Iowa Senator Joni Ernst, sought to take the taxpayer money previously reserved for Planned Parenthood and instead give it to other women’s health care providers that do not carry out abortions.

Republicans are hypocrites. This is all about appeasing their conservative base, defundingPlanned Parenthood will not stop the use of fetal tissue in scientific research, but it will make it harder for millions of women to get healthcare.
